day two-hundred-and-twelve - guppy (love)

you probably deserve more but i am rather intoxicated (on life) so...

also guppy's a cool word so you have nothing to complain about. plus a pun.

day two-hundred-and-eleven - pacific white-sided dolphin

i love how species-specific i am sometimes, when at other times i just write 'cat?'

obviously my laziness extends far beyond my art and touches my research and writing too. gross laziness - hands off!

so i painted today! (that's exciting)

ooo and it even looks quite nice. i must be moving up in the world.

before i go i must address some things:

  • firstly mr scanner, i love you. you are great. thanks for not being a dick like that other guy and putting blue shit all over my art
  • secondly, i was inspired to paint this dolphin not because he's cool (in fact, i despise dolphins - they do it in the blowhole, they trap fish in shrinking mud circles to make them panic, and they rape humans!.. sort of) but because of this photo. if more dolphins were like that i might change my opinion of the entire delphinidae family
  • thirdly, i am seriously considering some type of art school, so i'm not so embarrassed to show you my drawings

good eve!

p.s. despise was a little strong, i just think they're overrated
p.p.s. maybe i should have drawn a mammoth to accompany this mammoth post... ha Ha HA!!
p.p.p.s. sorry

day two-hundred-and-ten - fossa

this guy is a baby fossa, which are pretty cute...

© jem barratt

adults on the other hand make awfully frightening sex noises. how do i know you ask?

i'll never tell.

they are definitely the wheelers (from return to oz) of the animal world, all slinky and creepy and fast - and they have tiny heads... their mongoose heritage certainly shows.

what a confusing creature: related to mongooses but with cat-like traits. not to mention he bears an uncanny resemblance to the binturong i drew. admittedly that could be due to my terrible drawing skills, but i doubt it - for i am one hell of a drawer!

you're welcome.

day two-hundred-and-nine - sperm whale

here ya go:

© jem barratt

not particularly clever or well drawn, but it is a drawing of an animal is it not?

day two-hundred-and-eight - angelfish

what a waste of what could have been a great anglerfish font...

© jem barratt

other than that he's great! way to tendrilise the water angelfish...

day two-hundred-and-seven - spur-winged plover

this is what i started yesterday. i decided i would salvage him with some more posca and some felt-tip...

© jem barratt

he's no wattled smoky honeyeater but he's ok. i definitely need to find a nice stylised way to do feather with posca. i also probably shouldn't do such big pictures in posca...

talkin' to myself.

in other news, how cool is this plover stamp? please ignore that a question is not in fact news, and instead fixate on how great life would have been when stamps were only 25c.

pretty good i imagine.

day two-hundred-and-six - clownfish

i was drawing something else for an hour or so but then i ruined it, so here's a speedy clownfish...

pow! orange-and-black two days in a row by the way. how lucky are you guys?

day two-hundred-and-five - swan

just your regular, run-of-the-mill mute swan tonight. not that you should ever call swans regular i guess because they're really quite dynamic looking.

© jem barratt

it's pretty bad, but i quite like the style, and especially the black and orange combo.
