day one-hundred-and-ninety-seven - ebony jewelwing

as usual, the male of this damselfly species is way prettier than the female. although she does have yellow eyes, which is always a plus...

and even though my picture is (unsurprisingly) black and white, i drew a shimmery metallic male, not an icky female.

i quite enjoy drawing insects, although i really should draw them in colour sometime.

p.s. just so you know, damselflies can (mostly) be distinguished from dragonflies because of their wings that are held parallel to their body. dragonflies are way more showy, holding their wings out wide and perpendicular to their bodies.
