day three-hundred-and-sixty-three - whitemargin unicornfish

what a strange mash of words that name is

© jem barratt

and what a strange mash of bits the resulting fish is

i love that things like this exist. and the fat ones look even funnier (well, fat or perspective. you be the judge)

actually i'm not sure my caption is true. best things are indeed weird things, but not all weird things are the best things - in fact some are gross, creepy and dangerous.

oh well it's too late to change it now. it's probably best to go with it. so remember, ALL WEIRD THINGS ARE THE BEST. fact.

day three-hundred-and-thirty-five - flowerhorn fish

man there are some weird fish on this planet

© jem barratt

there are all kinds of flowerhorn fishies, rainbow ones, splotchy ones, and ones with lots o spots.

but don't get too attached - they are man-made hybrids and thus not found in nature and thus thus probably a cruel creation. indeed, they are susceptible to 'hole-in-head disease'. someone really could have named that better, come on.

deary me. humans are the worst.

day three-hundred-and-seventeen - red gurnard

due to an ear infection i am posting yesterday's animal today...

© jem barratt

it's a super weird fish!

it's body is actually a light red/pinky colour but i drew this with markers and you can't get subtle light colouring with the markers i have.

the end.

day three-hundred - pineapple fish

three-hundred! the end is at least in this century of drawings!

and a morning post too?! what is going on. i'll tell you what's going on, i have stuff to do so look at this fish and be grateful you got a drawing at all:

i really like the way i did the writing. my typographising is second to none (except, you know, artists and graphic designers and scribes probably). in any case i like it. although the fish looks a lot more worried that he should.

i'm going to be picky and suggest they don't actually look like pineapples, more like a yellow pinecone ot net. maybe that's not catchy enough. it's just that the fish is interesting enough without having an attention-grabbing (and inaccurate) name - i mean, i bet it doesn't even taste like pineapple.

this guy, like me, is australian and, also like me, has bioluminescent organs and is nocturnal and is covered in spines. oh actually, the spines make it more pineappley. as you can see, we have loads in common.

so i might drop my plans today and go hang out with one.
