day three-hundred-and-sixty - azure kingfisher

yum yum yum fish

© jem barratt

do kingfishers eat fish? i sure hope so. even better if they eat kingfish.

the coolest thing i know about this guy is that he has white lores (the lore is the area between the eye and the nostrils on a bird [amongst other animals]). now this is pretty inconspicuous until  he looks straight at you and BAM - double eyes! real eyes and ghost eyes.

cool. as are his fluoro feet.

day three-hundred-and-fifty-nine - oriental garden lizard

well i wasted my day off and i effed up my promise to only draw well for the last week of this dumb project

© jem barratt

it looks like a lizard, i'll give you that. but this is what the real deal looks like. amazing

i'm very disheartened today. and i could tell you that i promise to make the last six drawings super great, but i think i've lied to you enough

adios!
xj

p.s. woah dramatic! here's some cheery news - this guy's scientific name [calotes versicolor] indicates his penchant for rainbow skorts (or culottes)

day three-hundred-and-forty - nilgai (+ myna birds)

two-for-one!

© jem barratt

well nine-for-one. even better.

except the sheer number of animals means that the realism had to be sacrificed, hence the teal antelope. or antealope if you will.

g'night.

day three-hundred-and-thirty-seven - blue-breasted kingfisher

i have gone from hating birds (sort of) to now wanting to dedicate my life to them (sort of). and here is a fine specimen of bird:

© jem barratt

yum. looks-wise that is. i don't want to eat this kingfisher. or any kingfisher for that matter. maybe a fisher king though.

i am missing weeks worth of sleep and just saw a movie about a rabbi's cat who ate a parrot and then could talk, and then this russian guy stabbed this desert guy and then he got triple-stabbed. in other words, i am beyond tired.

so, yeah. xj

day three-hundred-and-thirty-five - flowerhorn fish

man there are some weird fish on this planet

© jem barratt

there are all kinds of flowerhorn fishies, rainbow ones, splotchy ones, and ones with lots o spots.

but don't get too attached - they are man-made hybrids and thus not found in nature and thus thus probably a cruel creation. indeed, they are susceptible to 'hole-in-head disease'. someone really could have named that better, come on.

deary me. humans are the worst.

day three-hundred-and-thirty-four - walrus

let's get my boring drawing out of the way so i can get to to the reaaal reason for my post...

© jem barratt

anyway, here it is. the best thing involving walruses you will ever see.

was i wrong?

g'night. xj

day three-hundred-and-thirty-three - northern cassowary

yet another bright bird portrait, but don't cassoWORRY about it.

© jem barratt

he looks a lot better than i thought he did seven days ago

cassowaries, like fine wines, must ripen with age. not that wine ripens. probably should have compared it to a banana or something...

oh well. that terrible analogy is a lot more representative of my long shitty week than a banana ever could be

xj

p.s. how nice is that blue?! it was so dark on the paper.

day three-hundred-and-twenty-eight - bird

© jem barratt

do you know what it is?

do i care?

yes

but not enough to search through every indian bird. sorry.
